LONG-SLEEVE BLACK DRESSES RULE THE CFDA AWARDS CARPET

2016.06.08

’re mere weeks from the official start of summer, but from the looks of the CFDA Awards’ hot pink carpet it was like the dead of winter. Dozens of fashionable attendees wore black, which should always be expected, but a good handful wore black long-sleeve silhouettes—quite the wintery combo.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, nominated for the fifth time for their label The Row, both wore blousey, voluminous tops paired with long gold necklaces and pointy-toe heels. Mary-Kate matched hers with simple trousers and a belt, while her twin opted for a full skirt, also belted. (Their sister, too, was in head-to-toe black, though a more summery, sleeveless version.)

Girls actress Zosia Mamet donned a low scoop-neck sheath with sheer sleeves and a fortune teller–esque satin headband.

Selma Blair’s avant-garde ensemble was half tuxedo, half gown. She wore one sleeve suit-style, which seemed to belong to a blazer, while the opposite sleeveless side was balanced out by a half-full skirt. Christina Ricci exuded a ladylike properness in her short, belted shirt prom dresses 2016, which featured a ruffled collar and tuxedo-inspired detailing down the front.

TRES CHIC: Doutzen Kroes and Coco Rocha.

A few of the top models in attendance were also clued into the covered-up trend of the night. Doutzen Kroes wore a minimalist zip-up jumpsuit, and Coco Rocha slipped into a bodycon turtleneck dress with skin-baring cutouts.
