Wollongong couple Christopher Bunt and Pinar Yaglipinar make their own wedding day sunshine in heavy rain

More than 160mm of rain in Wollongong on Sunday did not dampen the spirits of Wollongong couple Christopher Bunt and Pinar Yaglipinar on their wedding day.It was meant to start with photos at Wollongong Botanic Gardens and the beach but instead photographer Shenay Spinelli did the shots indoors at the Novotel.

Both the ceremony and reception later took place in front of 290 people at a Lidcombe function venue. Even a large Hummer stretch-limo took three hours to travel from Sydney to Wollongong because of road closures.

But the soft light in such overcast conditions turned out to be perfect for wedding photos and the only disappointment was a handful of guests were unable to make the trip from Nowra because of road closures.

The bride’s family Michael, Sule, Aydin and Adem Yaglipinar was determined to ensure everyone still had a great day.

Mr Bunt said the wedding had been planned for three months and the forecast was for fine weather until a week ago. “We still made it a good day. The rain didn’t stop us,” he said. The couple soon became so focused on their wedding that they didn’t notice what was happening outside.

Ms Bunt said they would honeymoon in Bali later this month. “We are going to enjoy the sun,” he said.
